Submission Guidelines

Submission Guidelines

Please read these guidelines before submitting your game. Following them will speed up the review process.

What we accept

Original homebrew games

Games you created from scratch for retro consoles. This is the bread and butter of the store.

Authorized ports

Ports of games to retro consoles, as long as you have permission from the original author or the source code is open source / public domain.

Demos

Work-in-progress versions of your games are welcome. Just add "(Demo)" to the title so users know what to expect.

Freeware re-releases

Commercial games that have been officially released as freeware by their original creators.

What we don't accept

Commercial ROMs

We do not host or distribute commercial game ROMs, even if they're old or "abandonware". This includes any game that was sold commercially unless it has been officially released as freeware.

ROM hacks without permission

Modifications of commercial games require permission from the original rights holder. Standalone patches are fine, but we can't host the modified ROM.

Copyrighted content

Games that use copyrighted characters, music, or art without authorization. Fan games using Nintendo, Sega, etc. characters fall into this category.

Offensive or harmful content

Games with hate speech, extreme violence, or content designed to harass or harm others.

Quality requirements

  • 1 The game must work. We test every submission on a standard emulator for the platform. If it crashes, has game-breaking bugs, or doesn't boot, it will be rejected.
  • 2 Screenshots must be real. Use actual in-game screenshots, not mockups or edited images. The screenshot and title screen should accurately represent what the user will see.
  • 3 Description must be accurate. Clearly describe what the game is, how it plays, and mention if it's a demo or work in progress.
  • 4 Correct platform. Make sure to select the right platform for your game. A Game Boy game should not be listed under GBA, etc.
  • 5 ZIP format only. The game file must be a single .zip archive containing the ROM file.

Common rejection reasons

  • Game doesn't boot or crashes immediately
  • Screenshots don't match the actual game
  • Wrong platform selected
  • Missing screenshot or title screen
  • Commercial ROM or unauthorized content
  • Empty or placeholder description

If your game is rejected, you'll receive an email explaining why. Fix the issue and resubmit — we're happy to work with you to get your game on the store.
